Today's prompt for Day 7: Luxury Desert Island
Damn, you just got news that you're stuck in this luxury one-person resort on a desert island with no interruptions, a complete buffet of your favorite food and beverages, an iPod full of your favorite music, and anything else you need to create. What would you work on?Bonus prompt for Day 8: Pep Talk Story
Your creative buddy has just come to you with a tale of woe and misery and needs you to tell your own tale of awesome, awful, ridiculous, or just plain silly that happened to your own creative project to cheer them up and remind them that everyone has creative ups and downs, and not everything goes smoothly. To participate, share your contribution in the prompt post for the day, and if you'd like, link back to this community in your own space.

Date: December 15th, 2013 01:51 pm (UTC)1. My BSc thesis. I've got an idea of what I want to make and I've already drafted an outline, despite being only half-way through of the first year. If I could use my luxury desert island time to make the first draft, finishing it up later when I've gathered the rest of my credit would be a breeze, also I'm looking forward to getting started on it. Of course this means that "anything else you need to create" includes unlimited access to research material.
2. Blood for a Bauble (40K co-written AU fanfic that I wanted to rework to an original novel).
3. Heroics.
4. Gods of Cabaret (a NaNovel that got stuck at 12K words and that I want to rework to remove magic).
5. I have some ideas for doll clothes.
6. A knitted hood.
Pep Story
Date: December 15th, 2013 02:03 pm (UTC)I was writing a 20K minimum challenge fic that was a reworking of the plot of His Girl Friday as a Green Hornet fic, and I couldn't get the various tensions right. In the film, Walter knows from the start that he wants Hildy to give up on the idea of marrying her fiance and come back to him, but since the fic had Britt and Lenore running the Hornet operation and Kato the one who didn't want anything to do with it anymore, the dynamic didn't work. I was well into the fic and unhappy with how forced it felt, when I had an epiphany: Britt doesn't want Kato to come back either. He's angry that Kato left. Suddenly it worked. Britt and Kato fighting and Lenore trying to get them in line is a lot more interesting, because every party is active and pulling in different directions.
So writing, at best, is like that: you figure out how it all connects and harmonizes, and that's a great feeling.
